Homeless World Cup Training

It takes very little social support to make a large difference in the lives of others. One week ago, I watched a very inspiring practice match of the Canadian Homeless Team against the Whitecaps team. The bulk of the players live in the Portland Hotel Shelter in the downtown eastside and many of them have never left Vancouver. With little words of encouragement from the fans and some kind words from the Whitecaps, players on the team that felt nervous (almost to the point of not wanting to go) changed to feeling energized to go to Paris to represent Canada for the Homeless World Cup.

Congratulations to the team!

This story shows me that little acts of kindness (e.g. spending a couple of minutes talking, words of encouragement) can go a long way. That’s why AGAPE is so important. Every time we interact and encourage the people on the street we have the potential to make a large impact in someones day. Keep up the great work AGAPE!
